We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Superintendent (Golf Course) – Spray Technician to join our Agronomy team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining exceptional golf course conditions through integrated pest management, fertilizer applications, and daily golf course maintenance operations.
The ideal candidate will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to support the continued health, appearance, and playability of our championship golf courses while ensuring compliance with industry standards and environmental best practices.
Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent – Spray Technician is responsible for assisting with all aspects of golf course maintenance, with a primary focus on the safe and effective application of fertilizers and plant protectants. This position helps monitor turf health, maintain chemical inventories, support staff operations, and ensure the golf course is maintained to the highest standards for members and guests.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to environmental stewardship and safety.
Qualifications and Skills

High School Diploma or GED required.

3–5 years of IPM/Spray Technician experience preferred.

Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Complete knowledge of chemical application equipment.

Knowledge of safe operation and calibration of:

Mechanically pressurized spray equipment
-
Hand-operated spray equipment
-
Hand-operated rotary spreaders
-
Hand-operated drop spreaders
-
Utility tractors
-
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Ability to perform assigned duties during emergency situations.

Must be able to obtain a Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) License and Fertilizer Applicator License within 90 days of hire.

Must obtain a Florida Best Management Practices (BMP) Certificate within six months of hire.
Key Responsibilities
-
Assist with team scheduling, coaching, and employee motivation.
-
Inspect turf, shrubs, lakes, and landscape areas to evaluate health and maintenance needs.

Apply fertilizers and plant protectants in accordance with agronomic best practices.

Assist in maintaining appropriate inventories of fertilizers and plant protectant products.
-
Maintain clean, organized, and secure storage facilities for chemical products.

Communicate effectively with Golf Professionals, the Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendents regarding course conditions and maintenance activities.

Attend continuing education programs, licensing classes, and industry seminars.

Implement and follow Florida BMP standards and environmental compliance requirements.

Assist with daily golf course maintenance operations as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Property & Facilities Director.
Physical Requirements

Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical equipment, and golf course environments.

Frequent exposure to chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, humidity, and extreme heat.

Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, climbing, pulling, and repetitive motion.

Continuous standing and walking throughout the workday.

Ability to safely wear and utilize required personal protective equipment, including respirators, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, boots, and other safety gear.
Compensation
Competitive hourly wage contingent upon experience and qualifications.
